WASHINGTON – An 8-month-old boy has died and Alexandria police say it appears the baby was left in a hot parked car in Arlington County while his mother was at work.
Police were called to Inova Alexandria Hospital on Friday afternoon after the unresponsive child was brought there. Police spokesman Lt. Mark Bergin says the child’s mother told hospital staff that the boy was in the car when she left her home in Alexandria for work in Arlington.
Bergin says officers responded to the hospital around 4:20 p.m. after the child was brought in. The baby was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.
Bergin says the mother intended to drop the boy off at day care. It wasn’t clear why the boy was still in the car as the woman was driving home from work.
Arlington County police will take over the investigation.
The high in Arlington County Friday was 90 degrees, with 59 percent humidity.
